The Bulloch County Board of Education embarked on a major community engagement process in order to assist in preparing a strategic direction for the school system. This process began in January 2013 with the Bulloch County Board of Education's annual planning retreat and included a joint annual meeting with the BOE and each of the fifteen 2012-2013 School Councils on February 21, 2013.
In March 2013, the BOE partnered with the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education to facilitate the major components of the engagement process. A 30-member Community Advisory Committee was formed, and GPEE conducted interviews with more than 700 people in nine focus groups for parents, employees, industry leaders, community support organizations, students, principals, small business, and post-secondary representatives.
In April 2013, the BOE hosted a Community Education Summit for the public which was attended by more than 200 people who participated in 11 breakout discussion sessions. For those who could not attend the Summit, the BOE posted a video of the Summit on the website and provided both online and paper surveys for feedback. GPEE will also conducted interview with key community leaders.
In May 2013, GPEE provided a compilation report of the feedback. This information assisted Bulloch County Schools administrators and the Board of Education in developing a comprehensive strategic plan.
On October 3, 2013, the Bulloch County Board of Education adopted the 2020 Bulloch County Schools Strategic Plan (PDF) that will guide the school system's operations from 2013-2020.
On October 14, 2013, the Community Advisory Committee met to review GPEE's 2013 Community Engagement Report (PDF), receive a copy of the 2020 Bulloch County Schools Strategic Plan (PDF), and to plan for the school system's 2014 Community Education Summit that will be held on Monday, January 28, 2014 at Statesboro High School.

Board of Ed Hosts Annual Meeting with School Councils
More than 100 parents, community and business leaders, and school system administrators and faculty met Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Mattie Lively Elementary for the Annual Joint Meeting of the Bulloch County Board of Education and the council from each of the district's 15 schools. This was the initial beginning of the community engagement process. Superintendent Charles Wilson discussed how the Board wants to fully engage both the school system and the larger community in meaningful dialogue regarding the education and academic achievement of our children and youth. The Board has partnered with the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education (GPEE) to facilitate a process that will result in: (1)community awareness of the educational issues; (2) extensive community input to be used in the strategic planning process; (3)identification of community needs and aspirations for the school district; (4) pertinent information for the strategic planning process, including prioritized issues; and (5) a strong community base that supports school improvement efforts.
