Notice Concerning Novel Coronavirus & COVID-19

COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is contagious and is believed to spread most effectively from person-to-person contact. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have specified that “large in-person gatherings where it is difficult for individuals to remain spaced at least six feet apart and attendees travel from outside the local area” pose the highest risk of COVID-19 spreading, while “virtual-only activities, events, and gatherings” pose the lowest risk of the disease’s spread.

As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many instances, prohibited the congregation of large groups of people. To reduce the spread of COVID-19, Bulloch County Schools (the “School District”) has put in place preventative measures at all of its offices, schools, and other buildings and locations (the “Facilities”).  Moreover, the Bulloch County Board of Education (the “School Board”) has approved two Return-to-School Plans for the 2020-2021 school year: (1) the Traditional Setting for in-person instruction in the Facilities;  and (2) the Virtual Program

Copies of these Return-to-School Plans are included with or linked below with this Notice.

Key Points About the Traditional Setting

During periods of Minimum/Moderate or Substantial Spread of COVID-19 in the community (as determined by the Georgia Department of Public Health), the “Traditional Setting” Return to School Plan includes these key points:

  • Strongly encourages, but does not require, students, faculty, and staff to wear face masks or coverings;
  • Strongly encourages, but does not require, appropriate social distancing between students, faculty, and staff;
  • Includes an expectation that students and adults will self-screen for temperatures and COVID-19 symptoms prior to arriving at any Facilities, and will stay home if any symptoms are present (seeking medical assistance if needed);
  • Follows existing protocols for students or adults who are or become sick at school, including sending sick or potentially sick students to the school nurse for evaluation and parent pickup if appropriate, and sending sick employees home; and
  • Defers to the Georgia Department of Public Health with respect to contact tracing, communication with any students or adults who test positive for COVID-19, and guidelines to follow for students or employees to return to school.
concerned about spreading the novel coronavirus or contracting COVID-19?

Notwithstanding these and other measures implemented to deter the spread of COVID-19, the School District cannot and does not guarantee that you, your child(ren), other member(s) of your household or family, or any other persons who use or enter onto or into the Facilities or come into contact with anyone who uses or enters onto or into any of the Facilities will not become infected with COVID-19. If you, your child(ren), or any member(s) of your household or family are concerned about spreading the novel coronavirus or contracting COVID-19, the School District encourages you to strongly consider enrollment in the Virtual Program approved by the School Board.
